Suggested order of purchase for mythology for BLM is:

1. upgrade relic weapon to Stardust Rod +1 with 3 Thavnarian Mists (300 mythology each) for 900 mythology – single biggest DPS upgrade for the least mythology; average item level of party's weapons determines LB damage; and, long-term investment since Allagan Scepter is one-handed, drops Turn 5 and the shield drops in Turn 5 (unconfirmed) too
2. buy Hero's Necklace of Casting for 375 mythology – long-term investment since Allagan drops in Turn 5 (unconfirmed)
3. if already have Allagan Tunic of Casting or crafted Vanya Robe of Casting, buy Sorcerer's Pestatos for 495 mythology – biggest INT, VIT and DPS upgrade
4. otherwise after getting Allagan Circlet of Casting or crafting Vanya Hat of Casting, buy Sorcerer's Coat for 825 mythology – ideally finishes AF2 chest upgrade, but can also use Vanya as worthy investments for secondary stats (vitality > accuracy > determination > critical)
5. buy Sorcerer's Gloves for 495 mythology – last AF2 armor upgrade with mythology; may also buy before the Coat & Hat purchases but unwise with Allagan Gloves dropping in Turn 2
6. buy Hero's Ring of Casting for 375 mythology – Allagan ring drops in Turn 1, so the ring is ideally left late
7. buy Allagan Bracelets of Casting for 375 mythology – ideally already had Allagan from Turn 2, upgrade for your last 8 Determination & 16 Critical Hit Rate (Allagan: 16 Spell Speed, 11 Critical)

At any point where you fill a slot with Allagan instead, it is wise to check if it has accuracy. Turn 4 has an accuracy cap for BLM of roughly 430 and Turn 5 reportedly 440-460. If you meet the accuracy cap while using Allagan items instead, use them while buying the next step of AF2 equipment with your mythology to maximise your gear set's average item level and defense/magical defense.

Generally, Black Mage upgrades relic, buys necklace then body -> head -> gloves with Allagan or Vanya replacing Darklight to increase VIT, after which ideally you buy the ring (and already have Allagan Ring) and lastly buy Hero's Bracelets.

If your drops are poor or you wish to stack secondary stats, many recommend investing in Vanya. The Robe and/or Hat allow you to upgrade your body or head, replacing with Allagan where possible while saving mythology to buy the other – the body/head pieces are the most important upgrades for meeting Turn 4 requirements, so invest early.

If you still have Darklight Bracelets and Gloves, upgrade the gloves first; if by then you have the Allagan Ring but not the Bracelet, buy the Hero's Bracelet first – otherwise the Hero's Ring comes second to last since Turn 1 drops Allagan Ring of Casting and finally and always last of all upgrade Allagan Bracelets to Hero's Bracelets since it only changes secondary stats (but important ones, so upgrading is worth it).

Priority is on having the most item level 90 equipped first, so only upgrade Vanya or Allagan pieces to AF2 when they give the greatest advantage. Always use Allagan as stand-ins for AF2 you need so you may upgrade other pieces sooner; you will meet the requirements of Turn 4 and Turn 5 sooner and still perform well with this approach.

Update; DO NOT USE ROSE GOLD CIRCLET – its Accuracy materia cap is 11 vs the 16 you can get with Vanya Hat. That is not worth the 12 MND extra stat.
